One of my favorite summertime pleasures is a fancy fruity cocktail. The frillier and chillier, the better. But do you want to know the problem with that? They are super fattening! A frozen margarita can weigh in at over 500 calories in a single serving. That’s like drinking an entire meal. And as much as I love an adult beverage, I’m just not willing to spend an entire meal’s worth of calories on a single drink.
I think the thing I love most about frozen fruity drinks is the color. Colorful beverages are fun and indulgent. But indulgent doesn’t have to mean fattening. Let me show you my little trick…
Then I fill them up with water and freeze them. Not particularly complicated, right? Drinks should never be complicated. In my opinion, anyway.
If I’m making a drink, it’s because I want things to become uncomplicated as soon as humanly possible.
Not too fattening. Light and refreshing. And oh so very pretty. You really don’t need to be Martha Stewart to pull this stuff off.
I love these fruit ice cubes for so many different beverages. They are perfect in a fruit punch, sparkly in a glass of lemonade and especially lovely in iced tea.
A low calorie way to jazz up any drink without making you feel like you are missing out on the 500 calorie fruity concoctions!

- 3 parts lemon-lime diet soda (feel free to use regular soda if you rather)
- 1 part vodka (rum can be lovely too)
- mint leaves
- Place fruit in ice cube tray wells. Pour water over top. Freeze until solid.
- Place cubes and mint in glass. Pour soda and vodka over top. Give it a stir. Serve.
